Welcome to the Team Chimera Robot Website. Team Chimera (Kai-mer-a) is a family robot team from Bolton Lancashire and consists of 4 members, Jordan Mann, Mark Rollins-Mann, Philip Mann and Phil Mann. The team are responsible for the design and construction of all Heavyweight, Featherweight, Beetleweight and Antweight robots. In 2016 the team will be attending a number of robot events around the country, competing against the best robots in the UK.

The inspiration for getting  involved was from us all watching Robot Wars when we were younger and we developed Chimera to be as competitive as we can. Building a robot can be achieved by anyone with a basic level of knowledge, with the robot being as simple or complicated as you want to make it. One piece of advice is have plenty of spares for your robot, as you will need them especially in the early days. The robot community is a friendly bunch and we have been welcomed into it over the last 12 months. Expertise is always available with fellow roboteers always willing to share ideas and opinions.

Where possible Team Chimera look to reuse and recycle as many parts as possible and to show that with a modest budget and a little knowledge anything is achievable. All team members bring their own level of knowledge and expertise, with a passion for delivering the most competitive robots possible. If you are looking for any advice on building your robot or how to get started then please get in touch with us and we will do our best to help or to point you in the right direction.

Robot Wars Series 8 2016

Team Chimera is very proud to say that we participated in series 8 of Robots Wars in 2016. This is a massive achievement for the team considering the time we have been going, and we took full advantage of our application being accepted. It was a chance of a lifetime and we enjoyed every minute of it, although Chimera didn’t last that long!

We competed with Chimera and it was a baptism of fire taking it to Robot Wars for its first competitive fight. We prepared Chimera as much as we could and we learnt a lot from our fellow roboteers and made some great friends.

Chimera appeared in  episode 2 and although it’s appearance was short lived we enjoyed every  minute of it. Mr Speed Squared is an awesome machine and going up against a spinner was always going to be our down fall with exposed wheels. I can say that this was the best ever series of Robot Wars with 2 fantastic presenters and some of the best robots ever seen. I hope you enjoyed the series as much as we did in participating in it.

Robot Wars Series 9 2017

Team Chimera can confirm that we will be participating in series 9 of Robot Wars with Chimera 2.

We’re excited with the new concept, where we have developed the original Chimera format onto a more powerful, reliable and effective robot. Chimera was our first heavyweight robot and laid the groundwork for what we have done with Chimera2. We always knew that we could do better in all aspects and the team were determined to make Chimera2 the best robot we could, both technically and visually.

This is the first time that this combination of weapon, body and front wedge has been seen on Robot Wars in the UK and we are excited with the prospect of competing against the best robots in the new series. Please check out the Chimera2 page of our website where you can see how Chimera2 was built.
